CLASSES

Theatre Arlington’s Adult and Children’s Theatre School (A.C.T.S.) utilizes a progressive curriculum in order for students to build upon what they have learned in a previous class or level and reach their potential as students of theatre and the performing arts.
Class offerings in Private Voice, Dance and Piano add variety and opportunities for students to grow outside of traditional acting or musical theatre classes.

SPRING CLASSES

All students must meet the age requirement by the first day of class.

Creative Play
Ages 3 - 5
Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00
$35 registration fee to reserve place in class /  $220 or $55 x 4 installments per semester*
A focus and development of the imagination of the pre-school age child, using music and creative arts projects in order to make stories come alive.

Creative Dramatics
Ages 6 - 7

An introduction to the world of theater and performing through the use of games, puppetry, music, high energy activities, creative arts projects and creative play.

Acting One

An introduction to the basics of theater, acting, auditioning, body and voice, imagination and experience, script, character history
and characterization, performing and developing related skills.

Acting Two**
Ages 9 - 13
Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00
$35 registration fee to reserve place in class / $340 or $85
x 4 installments per semester*
 A review of the concepts learned in Acting I, and the learning of monologues, improvisation, characterization, auditioning techniques, scene work, performing and developing related skills.
**Prerequisite: previous acting level or special permission from Education Director.

An introduction to different genres of theater, as well as a historical base for performing and creating theater.

Improvisation / Physical Comedy
Ages 10 and up
Wednesdays, 5:30-7:00
$35 registration fee to reserve place in class / $340 or $85 
x 4 installments per semester

An exploration of Improvisation as a tool for performers and it's use as a physical performer as well as a genre in its own right.
Students will learn to actively use their bodies, work on clowning routines and act off the top of their heads.

A $35 registration fee holds your place in class.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

Private in-person instruction in Dance, Acting, Voice, Audition Prep and Piano is available for children and adults by appointment.
$30 per 1/2-hour lesson

MUSICAL THEATER PERFORMANCE CAMP

June 5 - 23, 2023

This full day performance camp is for middle and high school students who have previous class and performing experience.
Campers will begin the first day with auditions for a full production and will spend days working with theatre professionals
through a full rehearsal process, culminating in performances during the last week of camp for area school and camp groups,
as well as the public.
Guest artists will provide extra instruction in acting, dance or voice and will spend some time in personal
story sharing in “The Business.”

INTERNSHIPS
Theatre Arlington is looking for a few good interns for our educational summer camps.
These are paid internships for qualified high school and college students who are motivated to work with kids
and are passionate about theater, with all its glamour and all its dirt, literally.

Positions Available
Head Intern: Responsible for intern daily assignments and direct supervision. Must be college student.
   
Office Intern: Responsible for checking in with office staff on a daily basis for administrative assignments. Also will create playbills for all camp performances and handle camper supplies.
   
Educational Intern: Assigned to a director/instructor or camper group
   
Technical Intern: Assist with and oversee technical aspects of camp productions, including props, sets, lights and sound.
Qualifications

Must be 15 years of age or older at time of application.

Application Process

Internship Online Application
Submit the above form, along with a one-page essay on why you would make a good intern.
Can be humorous or serious, but must be well-written.
Spelling does count!
Essays and resumes will be uploaded as part of this online application. Make sure you have them ready!

Time Frame

Applications must be submitted by February 28 (to be considered for Spring Break Camp)
Applications  must be submitted by March 31 (to be considered for Summer Camps)
Personal Interviews & final decisions will take place in April.

Mandatory Intern meeting will take place in June, TBA.

Duties Include

Camper check in and check out, class support for camp directors, stage management, lighting or sound for camp performances.
Space clean up and restoration each day. Administrative tasks as needed. Camper supervision
and assistance with sets, props and costumes for performances.

ACT UPS
Applied Creative Thinking Using Performance Skills

 

Developed in 1996, as a partnership with the Arlington Independent School District to target culturally diverse, at-risk students, the ACT UPS program now reaches more than 1,500 at-risk 4th or 5th grade children each year at Title 1 Elementary Schools within the AISD.  The ACT UPS Program will proudly celebrate its 24th anniversary during the 2019-2020 school year!

Why? To share the excitement and energy of live theatre with children.

Theatre Arlington takes the show on the road, bringing 2 rotating works of classic and contemporary literature to your group! Shows change every 6 months, with 2 super stories available for booking each year. Add an in-class workshop for a special group, or a grade level, following the show for an additional fee.
